Javascript enlightenment

Not that this will make sense to many of you, but i've been thinking of a new design for this fair old place. Now with a name like Russian Space Station there isn't much you can do. Well while doing my share of reading on Javascript i had a epifiny of sorts. I'm gonna redesign the place with a rising and setting sun! Basically it would use java script to calculate the time, where the sun would be etc. and insert the css into the page at "run time". I'll make some mock up's in photoshop and post them for the approval of you the worlds press.
If i do it right, it will be sweet, using no images, and maybe even some SVG images(Pictures made from words basically). Well theres my thoughts on that.

In other news i would like to say thanks to Viki and shell for taking me out and trying to get me drunk on wine, it's the little things that count. It's nice to see that those of us who actually stay at uni have a nice time...

Finally i'm working on a name to put my software releases under, my mum gave me a few suggestions, however the more the merrier. I would like non-tech related names please, something that actually makes sense to the general populus. If you come up with a name that i actually like, i'll give you a 10% shareholding. If it's really good or if you name is phil you get 15% ^_^

My first App (sort of)

Morning, got my first brain wave of sorts today. It's purpose is to stop email addresses being ripped of webpages and used by spammers.
The concept is that the bots that do the "ripping" of email addresses ignore Javascript because parsing it would be dangerous, and could allow exploits to infect the bots. Therefore they only scan the code, and don't execute it. Therefore if you hide it within a simple javascript then they can't parse it, therefore the address doesn't get spammed, thats the idea at least.
While it's most likely not new, niether is it very complex, it works so here it is

//email anti-capture (EAC)
//15/02/2006
//Ver 0.01
//Jonathan Dalrymple
//veritech19@gmail.com
//www.rssv2.blogspot.com
//Place name eg. veritech19 below
{
var name = "veritech19";
//Place name eg. gmail.com below
var domain = "gmail";
//Place suffix .com .net etc below
var suffix = ".com";
document.write(name + "@" + domain + suffix)
}
//To save space, rip out the comments before applying

In the future i plan to build a form based generator for it, so if dynamically generates the code for you, and introduce some complex statments to make it a little harder to parse, Plus a "if" statement that would test to see if your human ^_^

Enjoy, more to come from the lab in short order

One for the road(somewhat late)

{This post was meant to be posted last year on christmas eve but thanks to the proxy server it never made it, so here it is}

Evening

As i tap (on the T|X course) i'm on a national express bus on my way home. For some strange reason i'm really happy. Why is it strange that i'm happy? Well i'll give you some background

I've worked 8 9-6 shifts back 2 back.
I've cooked almost every meal i've eaten for 3 months.
I haven't eaten a proper meal in 2 months.
I haven't used bit torrent in 3 months

Anyways thanks to the wonders of batteries, flash memory, GPRS, and Microwaves, i'm gonna write a poem and post it on my blog all while travelling on a bus at 50 Mph.

One for the road...

I'm on the road now
I got to find a place some how
i quit my course, but not cause it was fowl.

the internet is where it's at,
law is great, but i'm not good at that

i decided to switch
but that created a itch

no course and in halls
my prospect falls
in rush i make phone calls
..

Ok, it needs a little work

Promise of a Threat

It's an Oxymoron, but it sounds cool so oh well. Anyways i'm back at home now. Trying to get my coding skills on. No word yet from Maplin's of watford, so we'll see what happens there. If not i'll work for low pay or bourbon biscuits, which ever is more. I post a pick of my desk one of thses days but for now i haven't start work on it yet. However i got my basic setup, my pc, a old laptop and a "head less" server for testing stuff. Since i believe in the open source model, and i'm too cheap to pay for a Sourceforge account i may move the blog else where so i upload my source as i work along.

Anyways currently in the development pot is a some javascript that will transform a normal desktop page webpage, designed for 800*600 into a version for handheld users at 480*320 or 320*240. How much "bank" will this net me, nothing, i do it for the love, and the fact that i'll paste my name all over the source code ^_^

Now if i'm gonna be some budding open source developer (who does .net work on side to pay the bills) i need a company name, right? Well i think so cause this whole "Dalrymple" name doesn't wash, any suggestions are welcome. Tell ya what anyone who comes up with a good name gets shares in the company... final amount to be decided nothing over 5% though, so board seat here.

Must go, laters

Quote of the Day
"Whats the difference between a threat and a promise, the tone and the sentence subject, for example i will kill you, i will help you; one word both are promises and depending on the tone, both could be considered threats"

L33t coda is coming back too the hood

In english; i'm coming home, at least for the next 8 months. So lan parties, hardcore coding, desk building and all the other assorted stuff that comes with me shall return to hemel hempstead, including the "new" and improved blu-ray (more memory, high powered graphics(oc'd of course) and quieter, apart from the massive 5.1 surround sound system). I should be back on saturday afternoon, so ready the party invites, in the mean time i need to sleep as i'm really tired. But thought i would drop in and say howdy. It's been a long 5 months, exciting too, and just think i get to do it all over again, in a few months time...

Tech appears

Right tonight, i did my first real techie thing in a while, i learnt some javascript. With what i've learnt i made a "scheldule show-er", so what does it do you ask. It shows what i'm doing on any particular day. Kinda sweet, and hopefully the first of many cool things that i'll create, the codes a little complex for such a simple thing, but hey it's basic programming so give me a break.

In other news i'm not moving back to hemel, but i got a room in a very nice house. I move in on the 25th. If i can work out how to do it, i'll put a counter/ count down up. Hopefully i won't go to crazy with the javascript, for your sakes.

Till another time, later

Return of the blogger

Season's greetings to you all.

I'm still in fair old southampton. I'm working every day from now till christmas eve. Now the nice thing is that my flats virtually empty. Out of the ten of us there is only me and ashley left, and we both head out on christmas eve. The same is true for most other people. It's a nice atmosphere as a result. As a result we spend a lot of time in other flats, hang out, and winding down, after serving the fair public of hampshire.
Now the big news of the year is that i'm changing course, thats right, halt any crimes, as i won't be able to defend you! Instead i'm going to do "Internet Application development" with will allow me to do cool "AJAX"(Asyncronous Javascript and XML), like gmail and such. Why the change i hear you scream, well law is hard, not impossible but hard. Unfortunately i don't believe i'm passionate about the subject, or at least not enough to get a 2/1.
However there is one problem, my course doesn't start till september, so i'm gonna try and sort something out, and might possibly end up moving out of halls for 8 months, do the whole holding down a job thing, and then restart next year.
As of yet, i don't think i'm moving home, or at least i don't want to, as i would have to give up my job, which i a, like; & b, will need next year.
Well how about that oil depot, and nothing happens in hemel...
Finally i'll try and see as many of you as i can when i get back, i might only be around for a week as i need to get back down here and look for somewhere to live, but in honesty i kinda miss you all and because i'm a cheapskate, i never call, have you seen pay as you go charges!.

Merry christmas everyone, and i'll see you soon-ish

Christmas, what's that?

It's an update the young warriors cried as they reached the peak of the mountain upon which they looked down at the deep, dark valley filled with assignments the cries and worries of 16 generations of...

Sorry I got excited for a second there. I just finished my Constitutional Law Assignment, which has like 20+ quotes from actual government legislation. Sounds like fun, don't you agree? Anyway I have to hand it in later today, plus I got another one to do for next week.

Just to update one and all I'll make my return to the "hood" on Christmas Eve, as I have to work so I can have two weeks off, after 4 months of almost constant work, life is one big balance I like to think.

But as I'll be virtually minted, able to spend time with my family, it will be nice. I have to go now To order my Nvidia 6800 Graphics Card to sort myself out for the day.

For yet another day/week/month take care everyone

Free Time; a funny concept

Free time for me, no longer exists. I now work (either my job or uni) 7 days a week. No breaks, no nothing. Busy i am.
Tired i am too, but hey, thats life. I like money, and i like knowledge, so i'm getting what i asked for, 4 assignments too, it's all a bit crazy really.

As i'm mentally knackered, i'm not gonna write much, i gotta save that for my essay. I don't know when i'll update again, but if you ever want to contact me quickly email me @

verisys AT bluebottle.com

The email's go straight to my T|X handheld, so i'll read it on my uni/work/ off a bridge etc.

Ever wanted to take over the world?

This one is for all the ladies out there, after intense research(seriously) i have found the "tool(s)" to take over and control the world, or at least manipulate it, or at least about 47% of it anyway. If anyone know's Saddam personally, e-mail him the link please

Step 1.
Get some half naked ladies and put them up on a stage.

Step 2.
Place a paddling pool in front of them, filled with a greasy substance of your choice.

Step 3.
Get all the intelligent, able body males, and place them in close proximity to the subjects from steps 2 and 3.

Step 4.
Instruct the women to enter the pool and "play fight"

Step 5.
Execute world domination plans, in relative calm.

Before i continue i would like to state i wasn't at the night in question ^_^, however it nice to see that humans can be so easily manipulated, oh excuse me, must dash, my empty bed's calling.

"RCP week" aka Reading week

What a load of crap that was.
I thought the idea was to read, not be driven to exuastion though, sheer mounds of work.
Well it's over now, the blog is suffering, but hey that working life. so i'll give you the brief.
  • I invited Nabil (i have no idea how it's spelt, but It's pronounced na-bile)out, but she was ill, so that died a quick death
  • I handed in my first assignment
  • I admitted i got a thing for salma hayek and Penelope Cruz.
  • I'm getting a tv card, for free from one of my mates
  • I can do some extreme wardriving on my T|X
  • I might come back to good old hemel Hempstead, for the presentation evening
  • DC++ is the best program ever made
  • And higher hacks is a great website

Well that about rounds up the week

Maybe another post over the weekend, who knows

Meet my mates (well some of them)

Well i after yesterday's quick update i just discovered that, i had kind of left people in the dark as to what i've done in the last weekcouple days. Well lots of things. I went to the club on Monday, like normal.... Me and Fuad{Pronounced ford, or thats what we call him at least}(a fellow law student) went to another flat, in the "Almond" block, here at lovely Lucia Foster. Where we stayed for 3 hours (bear in mind that it was 2am when we started ) chatting to a girl, who i can only remember as "H", and another girl called niki, that Fuad knew. Anyway thanks to this great site called Don't stay in, i was able to get a photo, of him(fuad) and some other people that i socialize with.

In fact that site is great, i found of a picture of myself, which i thought i had been careful to avoid, damn those druken camera men. Anyways, the pictures, meet the lads.

You can't really see it in this picture, but with his hat off fuad looks like John Legend. Unless you haven't worked it out, the guy on the right is Fuad, and on the left is my Flat mate Bill, who does Sports development(i think). I have no idea who the woman is.

Ok the guy on the left is Imran (i think that's how you spell it) he's doing business, the guy in the middle is one of the promoters for Bambuubar or Bambu as we like to call it, again we have fuad.

See the guy that looks like a zombie? In the bottom left, well he's not a zombie, hes actually Ashley, another one of my flat mates. Nice guy too, gonna give a nice hair cut, tomorrow and sort out this mess that is my headhair.

See the tall black guy at the back, thats Gadget aka William, he's a MC (thats a rapper for you lesser folk) and is known on the "streets" as Gadget Boi, i actually have his complete album on my pc, it's not bad. It's called "Gadgets hideout vol 1" my favourite part is the hoes skit, where .... Imran is also in this picture

Anyway the one you've all been waiting for...

The guy i'm pointing at is "Or-Re" i don't know how you actually spell his name :(, i know the other two guys in front of him, but i don't know their names, we communicate though signs, and "cuz".

Now if your like me your thinking you need a life why don't you find a picture of "N" to show us how good your taste is, well i would love to, but there are alot of clubs in town, so it might take me a fair old while, but if and when i do i'll put it up. Check out that don't stay in site, they got pictures of everywhere including good ol' Hemel Hempstead.

Till another day, later folks, and no i had too much work to do tonight, so nothing happened, ^_^

Broken in the best, fixed in the rest

Evening, i finally fixed the site, unfortunately it's now broken in the best browser to grace the web :(, firefox. I might even just change the whole thing now that my photoshop skills are getting so good. Higher hacks has published the second article on hiding your bit-torrent traffic, it was written by new mate josh, who lives over in the states.

Apart from that site repair, just know that i am very busy, and tired. The later might have something todo with that 5am stint, i did on monday ^_^ memories...

If we all remember that "girl" i spoke of like two weeks ago, well i her number, twice, it's a long story. Anyways i don't know what to do with it, i'm sort of low on funds, but i thing i might see if she wants to go to this place called the "orange rooms" which is like a jazzy kinda hang out place, you know what i mean. There's an event happening there on thursday so if i can clear my calender, i'll try and make it happen. But i'm in no rush, i got work coming out of my ears, degree related and personal. No Job, but you guys know how the mind of jon works (well sort of).

T|X is great, so great i thought about sending it back, cause it had too many features. This scanning for wifi hotspots is getting serious now.

Finally tonight in great student fashion, i'm gonna eat toast and watch a movie, in the last couple days i've consumed about 20 hours worth of Sopranos, that show is the best. Sadly i've never even watch the godfather, or goodfella's but this like all of them times 2.

Quote of the season
"Just when i thought i was out, they bought me back in"

Don't mess with Soprano's, they have a vowel!

I finally ordered my T|X, it comes tomorrow. Higher Hack's goes live today, if i'm honest i still haven't finished the first piece, it just needs a few screenshots to be complete. I have to do some washing. I got to prepare for tomorrow's lectures, plus a need to start on my seminar tasks. Fun all round, nothing like being a busy guy. In the mean time, i need to be creative for my employers Sudhian, plus for higher hacks, and play need for speed underground, and tell people how to get around tv liesensing laws.
